USA takes down Kenya in Cup Qtr Final
In a thrilling, fast-paced match, the USA Eagles took down Kenya 26-14 in front of a raucous USA Sevens crowd.
The Eagles came out of the gate with some fantastic play, scoring the first two tries of the match. Danny Barrett went over first after some nice passes inside the Kenyan 22. The USA provided some phenomenal defense off the restart leading to another USA try, this time from Perry Baker in the corner. The rest of the half was all Kenya, as they gashed the Eagles lines twice in the final minutes of the half. Collins Injera and Billy Odhiambo both scored to knot the match at 14 at halftime.
Martin Iosefo stopped Kenya’s momentum swing with a big try to start the second half. He brought the ball from a ruck, slipped by the defense and easily got over. A Madison Hughes conversion put the USA up by seven points midway through the second half. The USA continued to wear down the Kenyan defenses. Zack Test picked the ball from the ruck, and barreled through for a try in the right corner to bring the USA lead to 12 points. The USA was able to close it out with some hard hits in the final minute, but at the horn, Barrett was down on the field and appeared to injure his arm.
The USA will move on to the Cup semifinals for the second year in a row in Las Vegas.
