USA falls to #1 Ranked Fiji
The defending USA Sevens champions Fiji are back in the Cup Final after beating the host USA Eagles 21-14.
The first half was a hotly-contested seven minutes. Fiji went right to work and scored with a speedy run by Jasa Veremalua. The USA countered with a long, hard-working possession leading to a Danny Barrett try to tie it up. A bad USA lineout led directly to a Vatemo Ravouvou try to end the half.
Fiji made a big mistake to start the second half when Ravouvou spiked the ball in frustration at the end of the field, earning him a yellow card and a trip to the sin bin. However, the USA couldn’t capitalize with the extra man. Instead, Pio Tuwai made a run the other way for Fiji for a try to give them a two-try advantage. The Eagles had numerous opportunities to knot it up, but knock-ons took away any chances they had. Perry Baker added a try before the horn, but the ensuing restart went too far, and Fiji was easily able to kick into touch and end the match.
