Team USA shocks Australia
Australia opened up early with a try to go up 5 – 0. After a missed conversion, Australia kicked-off to the United States and continued to dominate with another drive towards the try-line. After an offsides, Australia lost a key opportunity to score and turned the ball over to the United States, who were unable to score before the end of the first half.
The second half would prove the United States can compete against the best in the world. Led by Jessica Javelet, the US quickly got some points on the board after a breakout run by Javelet, whose speed proved too much for the Australian defenders.
After a successful conversion, the US went ahead 7-5. Australia continued to make mistakes that the US capitalized on. At midfield, Javelet intercepted a pass and raced to the try-line for another try. After a failed conversion, the US went ahead 12-5 and would hold that lead right until the end.
However, a relentless Australia team was able to score again with zero time on the clock to tie it up resulting in a draw.
The US leaves pool play with 1 win 1 draw and 1 loss and will face New Zealand today at 5:30pm in the Quarterfinals.
