Wales’ Luke Morgan put the Dragons in front with a converted try in the second minute. In the fourth minute, Morgan struck again with a try under the post. Angus O’Brien added the two points making it Wales 14–0. Dylan Sage got the Blitzbokke on the board. And in the beat of a heart, Branco du Preez cut through the Welsh defense for a try under the post to make it level at 14–14. And on halftime, the Blitzbokke had taken control when Siviwe Soyizwapi scored in the corner. Branco du Preez hammered the kick through making it 21–14 at halftime.
Refusing to go down without a fight, Wales’s Hari Millard found enough space to tie the match up at 21–21. Luke Morgan came within inches of getting the go-ahead score for Wales halfway into the second half of play, but was forced into touch. In the final minute, with the score level, South Africa marched down the field and capped it off with a simple try to take the lead at 26–21. With just enough time for a restart, South Africa kicked the perfect restart for the circumstances, striking the deck and rolling into touch: RSA 26, Wales 21.
