Robbie Ferguson’s try just ninety seconds into the match got Scotland started. Gavin Lowe’s conversion made it 7–0 before Canada had even touched the ball. A certain Canada try almost followed a minute later, but Nathan Hirayama unmarked on the wing could not take the pass cleanly, given Scotland a scrum just inside its own ten-meter line. Canada was ultimately able to grab its first score in the last minute of the half, coming by way of Jake Thiel. Hirayama’s conversion was off the mark, leaving Scotland in front. With the half coming to a close, Max McFarland cut around Hirayama for a try under the post. Lowe’s conversion made it a two-score lead for Scotland at halftime.

The try by Connor Braid to start the second half along with Hiryama’s conversion made it a two-point affair. That changed when McFarland collected a kicked-on ball behind the Canadian defense to put Scotland back up by nine. Harry Jones’s try for Canada right at the hooter proved too little too late.
