Samoa claimed the first seven points in the first few seconds of play through David Afamasaga. John Vaili’s try two minutes later put Samoa firmly in control of the match with a 14–0 lead. From the restart, Tofatuimoana Solia claimed a third Samoan try, making the likelihood of a rematch of the 2018 USA Sevens final between USA and Argentina increasingly unlikely. Argentina’s Francisco Ulloa had different plans, scoring an unconverted try for Argentina to get some points before the half. Still, the Argentinians faced a 19–5 deficit at the break.
Siaosi Asofolau got Samoa’s second-half effort started exactly as the first had with a lightning fast score to put Samoa seven more points ahead. Samoa narrowly missed out another one a minute and a half later when the ball rolled just into touch through in-goal. A quick turnover score by Samoa’s Alamanda Motuga put any doubt in the result to rest. Ulloa’s second try of the match and Franco Florio’s on full time could do nothing more than provide consolation.
