In a bid to place a definitively positive stamp on their invitation to the USA Sevens, Chile took on the more-experienced France. Unafraid of their more experienced opponents, the Chileans grabbed the lead with a try by Felipe Brangier to go up 5–0 in the second minute. France finally got on the scoreboard with a try at the end of the half. The wind proved too challenging an obstacle for the French conversion attempt, preserving the level score at intermission.
Pedro Verschae’s second-half try gave Chile the lead and the conversion put Chile in an excellent position with a quarter of the match to play. Francisco Metuaze’s unconverted try moments later dug a deep hole for France with only two minutes to go. The whole was filled in a bit when Jen Pascal Barraque broke free for a try under the post and quick conversion to make it 17–12 with a minute remaining. A penalty with just six seconds left against France gave Chile the match.
